Finally a lining + random stuff

28 06 2009

I finished knitting and felting my Noni Market bag almost a year ago.  I cut slits in the felted fabric  and wove a ribbon through it.  Then it sat- 95% done until this past week. Waiting for some stiffener and a lining.  I got off my butt and sewed a beautiful lining for the purse.  Pretty darn happy with how it came out. Check out the before and afters:

Oh… see that bruise on my arm?  It’s quite colorful and will look quite beautiful with my dress on Friday at BF’s sister’s wedding :-(.  We went paint-balling this weekend, and I knew full well that I might get bruised in a visible place.  In the second to last game, (capture the flag) I took a paintball to the bicep.  Ouch!  my calf, thigh, and middle finger are all also sporting bruises.  Nevertheless, it was FUN! My first time paint-balling, and probably not my last.  Don’t get me wrong, I am not going to go out and buy equipment or dress in camo, but going once a year would be fun.  BTW- the most painful hit was on the knuckle of my middle finger- courtesy of my dear BF!

Last night was also The Great American Backyard Camp-out– A night to turn off the TV and set up camp in your back yard.  We got back from paint-balling (and BBQ-ing with friends) a little late, so it was dark when we were setting up the tent in the back yard.  After some very comedic attempts to get the tent up, (it’s been about 3 years since I set it up last) mom came out and gave us instructions.  It was fun and we can’t wait to go camping later this summer.

Not bad for putting it up in the dark!

Yarn Stash Confessions…

28 05 2009

When my favorite yarn store closed a year ago (sniff) i figured i would be better about buying too much yarn. You know when you live above a yarn store it is very tempting 🙂  I also thought- great, now I’ll start to use all this great yarn i have in my stash.

hummm… well…. I must confess- I haven’t been that good.  Here is the proof:

My girlfriend J and I were having a chuckle right after I took this photo.  Then the doorbell rang and I really had to face my “problems”

I blame Dizzy Sheep, the Woot of the Yarn world, and the recent Webs anniversary sale for my recent internet yarn purchases.

From Dizzy Sheep I’ve scored the following in recent months:

  • 11 skeins of Reynolds Lopi Icelandic wool $44.50 (retail $ 55.00) I inherited a bunch of bright orange lopi- i purchased these muted colors to tone down the orange in a large felted tote bag- at least that is the idea
  • 4 skeins of Dream In Color Smooshy $68.96 (retail $95.00) colors: 1 Happy Forest, 2 Blue Lagoon, 1 Gothic Rose. I already had 1 skein of Happy Forest in my stash. I have no idea what I want ot knit with these but I couldn’t pass up the good deal!

During the Webs anniversary sale I stocked up on the following:

  • 3 skeins of Ecological Wool in Dark Ash @ $10.49 per skein (retail $15 per skein) I want to knit BF and I a round heirloom throw blanket
  • 1 additional skein of Ecological Wool in Dark ask @full price  I decided on the Girasole pattern which required more yardage
  • 20 Skiens Amherst Yarn  byValley Yarns in Natural @ $3.19 per skein (retail $3.99 per skein) This is for a lover’s knot afghan I am knitting as a wedding gift.

Note: the 20 skeins of Amherst have not yet shipped… the stash is going to get bigger! oh no!  Needless to say, I am putting myself on a yarn diet. 😦

Dream in Color Smooshy... so dreamy!

Oh… so sad… knitting trouble

I was approaching the last 10 rounds of the beautiful throw blanket I am making. (See love hate with lace) and the dang yarn broke, or a cat got into it- way back at the very beginning… like 50 or more rows ago. Don’t know what to do ‘cept cry… more later…

Random Notes

27 01 2009
random scarf for some random posts..."Spontaneous Scarf"

random scarf for some random posts..."Spontaneous Scarf"

  • I am figuring out easy ways to run errands and get around. Last week I caught a bus to  the chiropractor then over another one to BF’s house, all on one fare. Today I plan to hit the post office, bank, and doctors office on my way to see him.  He’s got strep :-(.
  • More savings associated with the selling of the car! 🙂  I am getting about a $100 refund from the dealer who sold me the car on the unused portion of my GAP insurance. I paid my loan off a year early so they owe me around a hundred dollars- cool!
  • I am back doing Dinner’s Ready again. BF and I love to cook! But cooking on weeknights can be a bit lengthy and our grocery bills were high. I suggested we try Dinners ready for weeknight cooking.  We get a bunch of meals in a mix of 2 serving and 3-4 serving sizes. We keep the 2 person ones mostly at his house and the 3-4 person ones at my house- that way we cook for Mom too.  We did it in December and I saw a great reduction in my grocery bill in January.  Plus it’s fun- He and i go to assemble our meals together which saves us 10%, we save another 10% by ordering 16 meals, and we also save $15 through an employer discount.  After all of the discounts our meals cost between $5.50 and $5.75 per serving. Can’t really beat that.  Meals usually come with a side so we usually add either a veggie or rice depending on the side.
  • Finishing projects up! Keeping myself honest below is the original list. I finished a pair of blue and green baby booties for my friend from high school.  Very cute.  Instead of working on the pink scarf, I finished a spontaneous scarf which I started last spring for BF- he likes his alpaca scarf instead so it’s become a scarf without a home.  I am still searching for a baby gift for one more boy who is one the way… ideas appreciated.
    • 2nd sock in a pair for Mom
    • Stuffed Teddy Bear for friend’s baby
    • Felted baby chicks for ???
    • Pink scarf I started 2 years ago (ouch)
    • A slew of miniature stockings ornaments
    • baby gift for baby boy
    • baby gift for baby boy
  • You might enjoy a laugh I have a bad habit of falling asleep on BF’s sofa while watching TV. I apparently say the some pretty funny things right as I am falling asleep.  I’m keeping a running tally… Here’s the list so far
    • “My eyes are toothpicks” (my version of I couldn’t keep my eyes open with toothpicks)
    • “I have a log on my desk too” (I opened my eyes long enough to see a TV show where they were interviewing a guy with a log on his desk)
    • “Uh-Oh”

That’s a short update. 🙂
