  1. Set up and attend Personal Trainer apts for 2 half hours a week- early Monday and Wednesday mornings (7 sessions for June) SUCCESS!
  2. Stay within calorie budget 1,327 per day 6 out of 7 days per week – FAIL- A good try but I stopped calculating calories about halfway through the month.
  3. Purchase Dress for BF’s sister’s wedding ($75 budget), but spend no other $ on clothing in June FAIL- I purchased the dress for $97  had it altered for $18 and also bought flip fops and a tee shirt for a total of $135 on clothes
  4. Zero dollar yarn budget (gasp!) SUCCESS! Yay- I resisted the urge to buy yarn for a baby gift…
  5. Complete 1 project per week on BF’s to-do-list. (week 1: clean the interior of his car, like I promised a couple weeks ago.) FAIL- I did however, clean the interior of his car yesterday 🙂

Two out of 5… hummm… Here are  my July goals

  1. Eat dinner at BF’s place at least 2 nights a week (we spend too much time at my house)
  2. Close on the house!
  3. Make itinerary for M&S’s (BF’s brother and brother’s Fiance) Seattle Trip
  4. Add 1 day cardio to weekly workout (currently 2 days personal training)
  5. Renew Drivers License

June Clothing Goal: Fail!

20 06 2009

I must confess, with less than two weeks to go in the month, I failed my June goal to limit my clothing purchases this month to a dress for BF’s sister’s wedding.  Not only did I exceed the $75 budget that I set for myself (dress=$97 + $18 alterations= $115. $40 over budget!) but I also picked up a pair of sparkly flip flips ($10 at Rite Aid- Bargain!) to wear a the reception when my feet are tired from my kick-butt peep toe pumps!  It didn’t even dawn on me that I was failing at this goal as I purchased the flip flops- I didn’t even think of them as clothes.. but it is what it is…

Dress on the Right, for BF's sister's wedding.

Dress on the Right, for BF's sister's wedding.

Speaking of the dress for M’s wedding (pictured on the right).  It ended up being extremely similar to a black dress I had in my closet (the one on the left).  This is just testament that this style of dress really flatters my curvy figure.  I think I mentioned that I got a size 6 but needed a 4, I had the dress taken in and it fits great now.

For altering the dress I had two options.

  • Option A: The first place I went to wanted to charge me $50+ for the alteration.  The dress is lined, and there is a side zipper, so to take a little out of each side and replace the zipper it would be a lot of work.
  • Option B: The second place I went to was willing to take it all out of one side (the one without the zipper) , which will cause the sides to be slightly uneven, but would cost  less than $20.

I went with Option B and I don’t regret it.  I think you would be hard pressed to determine which side was taken in.  You be the judge.

Back to the original topic of this post… My June Clothing failure. It was 5 days later, when I had just hit the confirm button on Shirt.Woot.com  that it hit me, whoops I am buying clothes! I have to say, the $10 tee-shirt purchase was worth it. Who could pass down a visual representation of “turn down the suck, turn up the good”?

Obviously not me :-).   I totally beat BF to the punch- he wanted this shirt too, and we have a strict “no matching shirts” policy! Lol… so all in all I went $60 over my clothing budget for the month… not horrible… but I’ll be sure to do better next time!

House Update & June Goal Progress

OMG! Buying your first house is SLOW! Last week the bank decided that the joint application BF and I had submitted needed to be broken apart into 2 seperate ones, since we aren’t married.  That took 3-4 days to do and have us sign them.  The appraisal is ordered for Monday. We haven’t locked into a rate yet, and have been bummed to see the interst rates going up (even if just slightly).  Our fingers are crossed that we can close before July 1st, but it might be closer to the 7th or 8th of July.

June Goal Progress

Buy dress for BF’s sister’s wedding (check!).  My size was all over the map! In some I need an 8, some a 6, and some a 4.  I actually need a 4 in the one I settled on, but there was only a 6  available, so I will have to make a trip to tailors.  It’s a Jones of NY long Maxi dress, black with very bright very large flowers around the bottom. Cost: $97.73– which is 22.73 more than the $75 budget I gave myself.  I estimate $30 for the alterations, so I am looking at just over $50 over budget.  Not horrible, and I will definitely wear the dress again.

I am on target to go to the gym twice a week, I got set up with a trainer. She’s awesome- my legs and butt are very sore. The biggest hassle is trying to find time with her in the mornings- between 5 and 6. Apparently everyone likes to work out at that time.  BF and I ran a 5K last weekend. OK, I ran/walked it.  I had my ipod and I would run a song, walk a song.  We just got our results- he finished 2nd (out of 3) in his age bracket and I finished 3rd (out of 6) in my age bracket.  I finished in just over 36 minutes kinda slow.  There is another 5K in July and I am hoping to improve that significantly.

I haven’t bought any yarn so far this month- so on track with that goal.

The rest… I am working on those.

To keep myself honest and moving forward I decided to list a set of monthly goals and then report at mid month, and month end my progress.  For June, I am working on establishing a workout routine, staying within my calorie budget, limiting spending in one area of my financial budget and balancing time working towards BF’s goals.

  1. Set up and attend Personal Trainer apts for 2 half hours a week- early Monday and Wednesday mornings (7 sessions for June)
  2. Stay within calorie budget 1,327 per day 6 out of 7 days per week
  3. Purchase Dress for BF’s sister’s wedding ($75 budget), but spend no other $ on clothing in June
  4. Zero dollar yarn budget (gasp!)
  5. Complete 1 project per week on BF’s to-do-list. (week 1: clean the interior of his car, like I promised a couple weeks ago.)

We’ll see how it goes…
